Gentlemen of the LAW,

I have been discussing with my esteemed friend, EB (soon to be known as Ethics Boy...), an extension and variation of our only partially successful EB vs. CB Painting Challenge. A few years ago I took park in the Analogue Hobbies Winter Painting Challenge. I was far too optimistic on my targets but it did get me to paint some stuff over the period. So I thought myself and EB would adopt a similar strategy for the New Year and throw the scheme open to anyone else who wants to partake!

Basically the Challenge runs from 1st January 2017 until 30th April. Just in time to get everything done for Ayton! Each participant chooses a points target based on the following scheme:

The Scoring

    6mm foot figure = 1 point
6mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 2 point
    6mm vehicle = 4points

    10mm foot figure = 2 point
10mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 4 points
    10mm vehicle = 8 points

    15mm foot figure = 3 points
15mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 6 points
    15mm vehicle = 12 points

    20mm foot figure = 4 points
20mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 8 points
    20mm vehicle = 16 points

    28mm foot figure = 5 points
28mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 10 points
    28mm vehicle = 20 points

    40mm foot figure = 7 points
40mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 15 points
    40mm vehicle = 28 points

    54mm foot figure = 10 points
54mm mounted figures, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 20 points
    54mm vehicle, limber, etc. = 40 points

We were thinking of being conservative and just doing 60 points a month and that SHOULD get a basic LR force done (if that is what you want to aim for) but as it’s points based you can do whatever you like. Set whatever total you like. Paint whatever you like!

The points above are for completed figures, including basing. We did contemplate an option for re-basing but keeping that minimal. Say 0.25 points for a 6-15mm base and 0.5 for anything bigger… Not too concerned as long as it looks like some effort has gone into the basing and it’s clear someone isn’t taking a lend! :shmile: The aim is really for painted stuff. Anything that is bare lead or just undercoated is fine. Anything else done on the figures and it halves the points.

I’ll keep the head of the thread updated with total for those taking part. Evidence is either a picture here or a link to your blog. Those with limited IT skills can email me a picture and I'll post it here. Maybe updates at the end of each month? Anyone cheating will be introduced to Gaynor….

Anyone interested?

Andy

Considering I can knock out 200 points worth of 54mm in a day I could be tempted, not that I would mind lol.

As I've got 6mm, 28mm and 54mm(well 1/35) needing to be done I'd better get involved. Do buildings count as Vehicles?

(Don't suppose I get any points for building a 1:1 scale guitar? :D )

You can all pick your target total. The 60 a month was just a guide so my target would be 240 by the end and a running total can be kept. Just name your target and I'll keep a list at the top and update it as and when.

Nice idea Andy. I'll have a go.

For Ayton I need to paint 9 mounted (90 pts) and 42 foot (210 pts)

For other projects I am aiming to get to:
200 6mm foot (200 pts)
60 6mm mounted (120 pts)
7 28mm foot (35 pts)

Makes a total of: 655 points, or about 160 per month. Gulp, that sounds a lot now!

But not all 28mm cav are created equal, for instance, compare a French Napoleonic Hussar to a Numidian light cavalryman. :shout:

By the end of this month I need to do 8 Dragoons and a foot battery, all French, all Perry 28mm for an SP2 scenario. Luckily in the last 3 days I've almost finished the first 4 Dragoons. So yeah, count me in!

I've tried to start a list at the top of the thread but cannot do tables... If Mr P would be kind enough to grant me temporary God status I think I can reconfigure the forum to allow it to do pretty tables...

I promise not to break it... much...

Assuming the forum software allows custom BBCODE...

Need target totals off all participants please?

10 points!!! That's sod all!!

It's a painting challenge. Sculpting doesn't count unless you paint them afterwards....

You're a hard man, Mr McMaster. I'm retired. I don't have time for all this painting palava.

OK, OK. I'll paint eight 28mm figures but I don't know if they'll be foot or horse so I'll aim for 60 points. I suppose you already have a bunch of figures finished and will claim you've done them in January? And in February you'll photograph them from a different angle and claim another 60 points?

I'll aim for 90 points a month, that should cover the Rampaint and a few other bits.
I don't hold with all this revisionist twaddle about Vikings only being interested in "World Music" and farmers markets.

Why not? After all I need more 18th century stuff don't I? I'll aim for around 90 points per month - that should get 3 units done. Maybe we should all bring our completed stuff to Ayton so everyone can see it in the flesh?

OK so my current painting plans are as below

Chimera APC x 1 (part-completed): 7pts
Chimera APCs x 3 (less part-completed): 30 pts
Crewman: 5pts
Leman Russ Tanks x 3:60 pts
Crewmen x 2:10pts
LR Shields x 42: 21 pts
LR General:10pts
DK squad x 2:100pts

That's 243 points in total so i'll aim for 60 a month. Theres a lot of assembly involved so i dont want to go for more. I've scored shields as 0.5 point because a few of them are simple but most are going to be some sort of freehand arabic style so thats going to take an element of effort.

Put me down for 400 points.

That should cover the LR army and the current leadpile of SYW that. Needs finishing off.

That's at least 70 28mm foot.
And some extra for any horse things that sex me up.
